R.A.N Tip of The Week! The Feast, "Karamu" at Kwanzaa Celebration

Updated: Nov 28

This year at the 3rd Annual Kwanzaa Celebration! Unity In The Community, in collaboration with Community Partners on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at the Central Family Life Center, 59 Wright Street, Staten Island, NY 10304 from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, we will include the feast, often called "Karamu," mirrors traditional African harvest celebrations, where communities would gather to share the bounty of the land.

Due to the generous donations of our donors, the "Karamu" is made possible and attendees will be able to share a meal as they enjoy this festive Kwanzaa holiday.  Kwanzaa which begins December 26 through January 1 and draws on Southern African first-fruits celebrations and the seven basic values of African culture or the “Nguzo Saba” which in Swahili means the seven principles. It is important because it represents the core principle of community and togetherness, allowing families and communities to gather, reflect on our African heritage, honor our ancestors, and strengthen bonds through the shared act of eating a meal rich in cultural significance; essentially, it's a way to celebrate our history and unity while enjoying food that tells the story of our lineage.

THANK YOU to the following donors for making this possible:

- Chef Brigitte Harris,  @bridg3skitchen

- Joyce Cannady

- Joe and Teresa Parnell, Friends Who Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Organization, @msteesmagic

- Andrew and Michelle Howell

- Neil Berry, Voices of Community Activists and Leaders (VOCAL) and Deborah Berry, Community Leader

- 67th Precinct Clergy Council, Inc

Everyone is invited to get involve and join our Guest Speaker,  Professor James Small as he share the importance of family, community and culture to reaffirm and reinforce the bonds between us as people.
