Ms. Sawyers is the recipient of an Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant in September 2022. She is advocating to recruit stem cell/bone marrow donars with Be The Match in the hopes of increasing and diversifying the national bone marrow registry within Black and Brown communities. Currently, they only have a 29% chance of finding a life-saving donor. Ms. Sawyers hopes that this Juneteenth outreach and educational offering at the Juneteenth Freedom Festival at Tappen Park will expand those efforts to increase the registry.
